Privacy Policy

This policy explains which personal data CampLink processes, in the app and on the getcamplink.com website, why, who we share it with and what your rights are, under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).

In short

We use your data only to make the app work. No advertising, no selling of data, no tracking across other apps or websites.
Anonymous usage statistics are collected only if you say yes, and you can change your mind at any time.
Your account data is stored on servers in the European Union (Ireland).
Vault documents stay only on your phone, encrypted.
You can download your data and delete your account directly in the app.

2. Data we process

Data that stays only on your device: vault documents (encrypted, never sent to our servers), your PIN, maps and plans saved for offline use. Face or fingerprint unlock is handled by your phone's system (iOS or Android): CampLink never receives your biometric data.

Usage statistics: at the end of sign-up the app asks whether you want to help us with anonymous statistics. If you say no, we collect nothing. You can change your choice at any time in Profile › Account and privacy › Anonymous usage statistics. We do not use the phone's advertising identifier and we do not show ads.

3. Purposes and legal bases

Providing the service (account, map, planner, safety, content): performance of a contract, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Error diagnostics (understanding and fixing crashes and malfunctions): legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The data is kept to a minimum and does not identify you.
Anonymous usage statistics: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, which you can withdraw at any time in the app with no consequences.
Moderating content, preventing abuse and protecting the service (spot approval, reports, usage limits): legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Waiting list (telling you when the app launches and about the founder price, understanding which plan interests people): your consent, Art. 6.1.a GDPR, which you withdraw by replying to one of our emails or writing to us.
Location: used only after you grant permission in the operating system, which you can revoke at any time in your phone settings.
Legal obligations, where applicable: Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR.

4. What other users see

Your display name appears next to your ratings and comments.
Spots you propose (once approved) and photos you add are visible to all users.
Your username lets others invite you to shared trips. Trip participants see that trip's content, including expenses and participant names.
Speed test results are shown in aggregate on the spot page, without your name.

5. Who we share data with

We use providers that process data on our behalf, only for the services listed:

Supabase (database, account sign-in, photo storage, server functions). Servers in the EU, in Ireland.
Mapbox (maps, place search, routes). Receives the map area, searches and route coordinates. It may transfer data to the United States under GDPR safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework).
Open-Meteo (weather and elevation). Receives coordinates only, no account data.
OpenStreetMap / Nominatim and Overpass (place search and map data). Receive search text or coordinates, no account data.
Telegram: used only as an internal moderation tool. Spots awaiting approval, reported content (text, photo, spot name) and changes to a spot's reported access (spot and new answer, not who gave it) are sent to the moderator; your email is never sent.
Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.): collects error diagnostics. Servers in the EU, in Germany.
Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France): sends the service emails (account confirmation, password reset, account deletion). It receives your email address and the message content; opens and clicks are counted only anonymously.
Google Firebase Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd.): collects usage statistics, only with your consent. May transfer data to the United States, with the safeguards required by the GDPR (standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework).
Netlify (Netlify, Inc.): hosts the website and receives waiting-list sign-ups. May transfer data to the United States, with the safeguards required by the GDPR (standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework).
Apple and Google: distribute the app through the App Store and Google Play, each under its own privacy policy.

We disclose data to authorities only when required by law. We never sell or hand over your data for advertising or marketing.

6. How long we keep data

Account data and content are kept while your account is active.
When you request deletion in the app, your account is permanently deleted after 30 days. During that time you can cancel by signing in again. On deletion we erase your profile, preferences, trips, ratings, photos, emergency contacts, reports and blocks. Approved spots and speed test results may remain, no longer linked to you in any way: they keep showing the spot and its network coverage.
You can delete individual content (ratings, photos, spots you created) at any time.
Error diagnostics are kept on Sentry for 30 days.
Usage statistics are kept on Firebase Analytics for 2 months, then deleted. If you withdraw consent, collection stops immediately.
Waiting-list emails are kept until you unsubscribe, at most 12 months after the app launches.
Providers' technical logs are kept for the periods set by their services.

7. Your rights

You can ask at any time to access, correct or delete your data, restrict its processing, object to processing based on legitimate interest, and receive it in a portable format.

In the app: Profile › Account & privacy › Download my data / Delete Account.
By email: privacy@getcamplink.com. We reply within 30 days.

You can also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority; in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.

8. Children

CampLink is intended for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16; if we become aware of it, we delete it.

9. Security

Communications are encrypted (HTTPS). Database access is restricted by per-user rules. Vault documents are encrypted on the device. No system is 100% secure: if a data breach affects you, we will notify you as required by law.

10. Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will tell you in the app before the changes take effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
